The Lion at Thurne
Welcome to The Lion at Thurne, Gin Palace & Real Ale Mecca on the Norfolk Broads
We love dogs here nearly as much as we love beer!
We allow dogs in all of the bar areas all of the time but not in our restaurant area.
You are very welcome to book a table to eat in the bar (depending on availability) so please mention when calling to book a table on
We will happily provide a dog bowl full of water for your pooch, just ask at the bar!
Please see our website for menu
We also offer a choice of stonebaked pizzas on our specials daily
By far the easiest way to find us is by river – we are at the end of Thurne Dyke, just off the River Thurne, about 20 minutes downriver from Potter Heigham or five minutes upriver from Thurne Mouth. Just look for the famous white windmill!
You’ll find the village of Thurne signposted off the B1152 between Acle and Martham/Potter Heigham. Follow the high street to Thurne Staithe and you can’t miss us!
Hours of work
9am – 11pm Summer
12 – 11pm Winter
We are the closest pub/restaurant to three of the local camping/caravan sites: Woodside Farm, Clippesby Hall and Bureside Holiday Park, being a ten-minute walk from the latter. Or if you’re staying at Hedera House in Thurne, you’ll find us practically next door!
